How today's hail report works

SwathIQ combines two NOAA sources. SPC storm reports are the observed-hail record -- the counts and sizes you see in the list. The MRMS radar swath on the interactive map fills in the full footprint of each storm, including areas no one reported. Because hail data is binned by the UTC day, a late-evening storm can land on the next calendar day -- check both rows after an overnight event.

FAQ

Where did it hail today?
The list above shows every U.S. day with reported hail, most recent first, updated through the day. Each row shows the largest hail size and states hit.
Why is today empty in the morning?
Hail data follows the UTC day and most U.S. storms fire in the afternoon/evening, so today fills in as storms occur. Yesterday's row is the most recent completed day.
Is it free?
Yes -- the live report and map are free. An approved (free) account adds door-knock address lists for your markets and printable reports. Access is hand-reviewed -- you'll get your invite within 24-48h.
